öff öff productions
The performance art of öff öff productions (founded by Heidi
Aemisegger in 1994) combines both existing and invented
elements of new circus, aerial acrobatics, contemporary dance,
theatre and live music weaving it all into a distinctive öff öff style
of aerial dance. Especially characteristic of öff öff are big outdoor-
and site-specific spectacles including the usage of the vertical
dimension and defying of gravity. Be it on a high bridge, on a
slippery façade of a building or on a 17-meter-high mobile steel
construction – öff öff always goes up in the air!
Öff öff creates site-specific aerial dance at bridges, buildings, on
walls and in the airspace of halls etc. The skills/elements used: wall-
dance (harness work), bungee acrobatics with trapeze, high-wire
walking, slack-line, upside-down walk on the ceiling, vertical silks,
vertical rope, “walking wheels” and vertical PVC tubes (both last
mentioned skills are special inventions of öff öff).
Since 1994 öff öff has produced more than ten productions of their
own in addition to having accepted many commissions on different
scales. Commissions (a selection): Zeitgenössiche Oper Berlin
(“Séraphin”), Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern, various works for EXPO
(2000 Hanover, 2002 Biel and 2008 Zaragoza), Landwasser Viaduct
Rätische Bahn celebration of it being chosen as UNESCO World heritage.
Öff öff’s works are both humorous and poetic, always presenting
new images defying gravity and surprising the audience!
