Two2 is an opus for two pianos and has no fixed time structure. The composition
by John Cage has the following bar structure: 36 x 5 / 7 / 5 / 7 / 7. The order of
the separate sounds is given, independently of one another, but the tempo not.
This creates a piece of music for which the musicians must take full responsibility
whilst playing. It comes out differently every time. It is music without a beginning,
middle or end; music not as a fixed time structure but as a process. This nature of
the composition gave the danced interpretation of it, almost by necessity a choreo-
graphic concept. The choreography utilizes similar principles fixing certain elements
of the dance whilst leaving others open for each performer's decision in the moment.
The choreography also comes out slightly differently every time it's performed.
The dance and the music exist in parallel but function independently from one
another as equal parts of the choreography.
